About the Association for Bangladeshi Students

The association has the following organizational structure:

  • ABS Executive Board: Comprised of 3 Student Members Elected Annually
  • Student Members: Students of Virginia Tech
  • Non-Student Members: Faculty/Staff, Spouse, Community Friends
  • Alumni

ABS is a non-profit, non-religious, non-political, student organization at Virginia Tech looking after the interests of Bangladeshi students, as well as providing a platform for such students to showcase the education, history, culture, and development issues of Bangladesh. ABS also serves to bring together the Bangladeshi community at Virginia Tech and surrounding areas. Along with that, we sponsor a wide variety of events and activities, especially celebration of Bangladeshi festivals and volunteer services.

By celebrating Bangladeshi festivals, we try to bring a taste of our beloved country and culture to this foreign and diverse land. Along with that, we participate 'International Week' hosted by the university. The Street Fair during 'International Week' is our main fund-raising event where we sell Bangladeshi food. We also arrange picnics and camping trips to nearby areas. Often our talented members participate in university cultural programs.

By participating in volunteer-based activities, we try to spread awareness about Bangladesh. We also frequently send contributions for charitable causes to Bangladesh and other countries with help from our members, friends, and alumni. Every year ABS donates a large part of the year's raised funds to charitable causes in Bangladesh as well as other countries around the world. We have made some major contributions to Bangladeshi and world communities in the past decade and we sincerely hope our future members continue to support worthy causes.
